Introduction

The Hungarian Wado-Ryu Karate Association consists of a total of 26 dojos throughout six counties and the capital. Its activities are carried out as a Public Association, through the Capital City Court. The Association coordinates all activities linked to Hungarian Wado karate.

The chief instructor of the Association, Kando Shibamori (9th dan), has been living in Austria since 1973, where he teaches Wado Ryu in the Seibukan Dojo in Linz. In 1987 he took over the direction of Hungarian Wado Ryu karate which, at the time, was suffering certain preliminary organisational problems. As a result of his work, the style in Hungary has close to 1,500 practitioners and more than 50 active black belts.

The director of the Hungarian Wado Karate Association, Tibor Rostás, 7th dan joined the newly established Hungarian Wado Ryu school in 1982, has led the Hungarian Wado Karate Association since 1996. He served as a professional police officer from 1988 onwards, where he worked as a close combat instructor. He was the training leader for the Hungarian Police Special Forces between 1993 and 1998, and for the Uruguayan Special Corps in 2001. In 1993, he won first place in kumite at the Colorado Springs World Games.
